Face it: there isn’t much on the drive-thru menu that you can have during your medical weight loss program in East Brunswick, and fast food won’t help you keep off the weight you lose once your program is over. But when pressed for time, finding a healthy meal to take on the go isn’t the easiest of tasks. Unfortunately, many people trade their health for convenience and bargain.
For the sake of your health and your weight loss goals it is time to address your lunchtime eating habits and find a healthy solution that works for your watch, your wallet and your weight loss efforts.
Lunching Healthy on the Go
Whether you have work, school or just a long list of errands to run, eating a healthy lunch is imperative. Unfortunately, lunch is easily one of the most overlooked meals of the day. While we are reminded regularly to eat a healthy breakfast, and put a lot of thought into deciding what healthy dinner we are making tonight, lunches don’t often get this kind of attention. Instead we see commercials for burgers, pizza and fried anything-and-everything that try to lure us into fast food restaurants where we fill up on calories without questioning the health consequences of our meal choices.
Whatever you are up to, consider these healthy tips for eating a good lunch:
- Bring your own. Packing your own lunch is one of the most best ways to ensure that you eat healthily. Bring leftovers from last night’s dinner or make yourself a healthy sandwich as part of a balanced meal.
- Avoid problematic areas. If your office break room is loaded with donuts, bagels and other snacks, avoid it and eat lunch outside. If you find that traveling past your favorite fast food place is hard to do around lunchtime, try reworking your route so you aren’t so tempted while hungry.
- Get a buddy. Talk to a co-worker or classmate about your diet and wellness goals and see if they are interested in teaming up with you. Provide each other with accountability and aim to make healthy meal choices together.
If you find that your half hour lunch break is too tempting of a time period, then split it up with a 10 or 15 minute exercise break. Along with packing your lunch, do your best to bring your water bottle to work and drink plenty of water while going about your business. Staying hydrated will help reduce hunger and keep you healthy.
